Brought my old bike to change a tire. On top of charging me 20$ more to what was initially agreed upon, without calling me first, they put a tire of a different color. So now bike looks completely off. When I complained, the owner stormed out at me telling that he can take the tire off, and I can go my way. Not really a good service for the price. Do not recommend!
My husband brought in his beloved high-end vintage road bike for some new parts. Parts were replaced, but with cheap alternatives and mechanic exhibited a lack of care. A good spot to fix your bike, but not a great spot if you care about finely tuned bike mechanics. Just average.
Had the pleasure of meeting Jay, the owner of Jay’s Cycle, while on a ride. He invited me to join him and we have had several fun rides together. Jay has lots of knowledge of the cycling industry and is eager to share. I had some mechanical issues (flat tires) and Jay luckily had a spare and CO2 and made the repairs roadside for me so we could continue our ride. Wouldn’t even take payment for the repair.
Jay is an honest and fair business owner. If in the market for a bike or service, I encourage you to give Jay a try!
Jay is the man! He came highly recommended and though I haven't purchased a thing from him (yet), he's been forthcoming with lots of helpful advice. Looking forward to doing business with him soon.
2.5 stars. Nice shop and people however there are some concerns. I'm really not a huge fan of leaving my $2000 bike outside the store in a place with a lot of foot traffic. Also I never leave my bike outside where it can get wet and rained on. The price of the standard service was decent but not great. What I really was not impressed about was the fact the part of the price of the service includes the polishing of the frame. For $125 you would expect they would do that as advertised. My frame was not polished and if it was it was not we'll. There's clay from 6 mile all over the frame still which is not hard to remove at all. It's not a huge deal but at that price you expect to get everything you paid for done well. It kind of makes me question if they put that same effort into the other areas of the repair. I will give them another chance but not super impressed so far.
After quite some time it's disappointing not to hear any response from this shop. It would be nice to hear reassurance of how they can keep people bikes safe outdoors from theft and damage. It would also be nice to know why frame polishing is part of what you pay for if it's not provided. Disappointing to feel like you can't bring your bike to a local shop because of a lack of trust and a lack of communication with their customers.
I've been a customer of Jay's Cycles for many years. They have a convenient in-town location and have always offered a decent selection of bikes and competent sales and repair advice, but they haven't always been known for friendly customer service. That's why I'm extra pleased to be able to report a great repair experience.
A couple of weeks ago on a Saturday, I brought my bike in for repair of a broken spoke. I also decided to have my chain, which was stretched out, replaced. When I arrived, I received a friendly greeting, and there was no wait to be served.
The service rep warned me that my bike probably wouldn't be ready until Wednesday or Thursday. Although I didn't look forward to being without it for that long, that seemed okay, and was shorter than the wait at another bike shop I had called.
On Monday, I got a text message saying the bike was ready! I went to the store, and sure enough, it was. Again, I experienced a friendly greeting, and was able to pay and receive my bike within minutes.
The cost was reasonable, too -- $30 for replacing a spoke and truing the wheel, and $40 for the chain, plus tax. That included parts and labor.
Kudos to Jay's for the friendly service and speedy repairs.
I had a great experience buying a bike here! The folks who helped me were extremely helpful, patient, accommodating, and friendly. Would highly recommend!
Nice selection of bikes in a convenient location in downtown Princeton. Parking can be a bit tough though. The younger staff members are helpful and seem to really care about serving the customers.
There is an older gentleman in the shop that is a bit crass and short tempered. Unfortunately, this is the gentleman that seems to call the shots. A bit more etiquette around providing white glove customer service would go a long way.
